Google Notebook

I recently got this email from Shawn Moore, an 8th grade science teacher in Lenoir, NC:

I know that notebook is still in the "lab", but I have been experimenting with this program on my own and I am about to use it with my middle school science class. One of the biggest problems we have been facing is plagiarism and lack of source citation. I am working to utilize notebook to address these issues since it has an included automatic citation feature. I am curious what thoughts you have about this new program?

First, thanks for the email Shawn! We love getting emails like this at the ITM. Much better than the never-ending stream of spam. If only we could get the "spammers" to use their skills to IMPROVE the world?!

On Google Notebook... I think it has a lot of potential. Organizing "information fragments" in one place can be extremely valuable, especially since we do a whole lot more "scanning" on the Web than reading. Being able to quickly gather a section of text, an image, or a link is perfect for the gathering phase of classroom research.

Zurbo!

What Google Notebook is missing is the ability

The automatic citation feature makes it even more compelling. I'm sure we all remember how tedious it can be to create a bibliography - and it's even more complex with explosion of the Web.
